Quinn Plastics & Packaging, the Ireland-based plastic packaging company, has announced that it has acquired a Kiefel KMD 85 thermoformer as part of its development strategy to become a major player in rigid food packaging The machine, which is the first significant packaging machinery investment made by the new Quinn Manufacturing Group, complements the firm’s existing bank of KMD 85 thermoformers. Charles Shaw, managing director for Quinn Plastics & Packaging, said: “The Quinn Group has undergone a major corporate and financial restructuring in the past 18 months. “This investment demonstrates to the industry that this process is now behind us and we are now focusing on the future with great optimism as we look to continue our growth and development in the packaging industry.” Jeremy Sampson, sales and marketing director for Quinn Plastics & Packaging, said he was delighted to have increased the firm’s capacity to serve the food markets. He added: “This additional machine, which is fully compatible with our existing tooling, will allow us to increase our significant market share in meat and poultry trays, and to build supply to the mushroom punnet sector which we entered seriously at the start of 2012.” The company is based in Ballyconnell, Co Covan. It manufactures a range of packaging products. These products include rigid packaging for the food Industry, including meat trays and mushroom punnets and flexible packaging for industrial and agricultural applications. Quinn Packaging is part of the Quinn Plastics & Packaging division of the Quinn Manufacturing Group which also includes a container glass division, a domestic radiator division and a construction industry supply division.
